Cardiac rehabilitation is key to a heart patient's recovery. Our Cardiac Rehabilitation Program consists of supervised exercise and education to put patients on the path to a healthier heart.
Phase I, which begins while patients are in the hospital, consists of an individualized, progressive exercise and walking program designed by an exercise physiologist and/or cardiac rehab nurse. During exercise, patients are carefully monitored. Cardiac rehab nurses answer questions and educate patients and families about heart disease, diet, exercise and stress management.
Phase II is a monitored outpatient exercise program for heart patients who have returned home. It may last six to 12 weeks, depending on individual needs. Cardiac rehab staff members, many of whom have special certification as exercise specialists through the American College of Sports Medicine, design an exercise program for each patient and monitor heart rate and blood pressure throughout each session. Activities are varied and include exercise equipment such as stationary bicycles, rowing machines and treadmills. |
