Dr. Ethan Carlson says the best thing about practicing medicine in Baraboo are the people.
Case-in-point for Dr. Carlson — who is a Family Physician at SSM Health Dean Medical Group - Baraboo — is his patient Kristin Hermsen. "I've known Kristin for about five years," says Dr. Carlson. "I've delivered three of her children."
Kristin, a stay-at-home mom, has lived in Baraboo for 17 years. All but one of her four children were born at SSM Health St. Clare Hospital. "I appreciate the care and concern shown by the nurses and staff here," Kristin says.
"I came to Baraboo 20 years ago after I finished my residency in Ohio," says Dr. Carlson. "I think the hospital is fantastic."
But it's the community, Dr. Carlson says, that really sets Baraboo and SSM Health apart. "I like practicing in a smaller community. Baraboo is really a great place to live in and practice. It's really nice to get to know patients and see their children growing up. I now have patients who I've delivered and who have graduated high school and I've taken care of them ever since they were born. That's a very rewarding part of my practice."
